Therapeutic Recreation

It is important for us to provide quality of life for our residents.  Our Therapeutic Recreation team meets with every resident and their family to learn about their interests, and activities are tailored to each resident’s preferences.  We work to help our residents feel comfortable in their new surroundings.

We have noted that residents who come in for short stay tend to stay to themselves.  We know their primary interest is to come to Oceanside, to go to rehab, and return home.  We meet with our short-term residents to learn about activities they enjoy.  We recommend activities to help make their day go a little faster while they are here for recovery and rehabilitation..  Books from our library, music and movies are available.

Activities include movies, live entertainment, current events, fitness programs, virtual sports, and, of course, Bingo.  We offer live entertainment weekly.  Out of facility trips to restaurants, the movies, concerts at the local parks and the beach, picnics, Duck’s games and museums are scheduled often.  Theme parties are quite fun at Oceanside, where we hold Italian nights, an Oktoberfest, and more.

Holiday celebrations are very important to our residents, and families are invited to participate.  Religious services and community groups provide for the religious and spiritual needs of our residents, no matter what their denomination.

“I had 4 operations and have been in-and out of Oceanside 4 times over the last two years.  I recently had a hip operation and am able to walk well now -- I’m even dancing!

Oceanside is ‘top-notch’.  They treat me with the utmost care.”

“I know people come in to tour with the impression that Oceanside is just a nursing home.  But Oceanside is so much more than that.  People are alive here.  They dance.  They make friends.  They enjoy themselves.  We get them to participate even if they aren’t as mobile as well as they used to be”.
